Big Brother, Uncle Sam

"I ask for, not at once no government, but at once a better government" - Henry David Thoreau
I am sure many of you know my distaste for the govt and many of its policies..they dont usually work with the way I think things should be handled. It is very irritating that they often seem to make certain things in our life worse instead of better....

I contested my property taxes this last year because the appraisal of my house jumped up $11,000. I had a company do the protesting for me. They told me that I would pay my taxes as usual and if the value of my home was reduced, I would get a refund. So, I check right before the end of the year to see if they have been paid and they were not. I look on HCAD and double check, I have no bill for taxes. I figure maybe b/c I contested the taxes, they werent going to bill me even though O'Conner and Associates told me otherwise.

I dont think anything about this until I am talking with my co-worker who says that if I didnt pay my taxes by the end of the year, I cant use that for income tax purposes...great..I think..wonderful...just my luck. I dont know what kind of monetary effect this will have but i am sure it wont be good.
I called HCAD today and they confirmed what I had thought, since I contested my taxes, they were not certified, thus I wasnt billed for them, thus they werent paid by my mortgage company....great, wonderful, hallelujah....

And to top it off, the powers that be did not lower my appraisal, so I still have to pay the taxes on the new amount...

lovely..I already owe the govt money from a screwup on our taxes a few years ago...so I know they will take that out of any refund I get, now this....wait a minute, why should i worry??? Obama will fix it for me....YIPPEEE!!!

So, here is a happy picture to cheer you up....

Isn't it the worst when we have only ourselves to be mad at?? I always like to say that if I could stay home with my kid, that kind of stuff wouldn't happen.

Of course, I'd still find a way to let something slip through the cracks.

I still have to pay taxes this month, but I dont get to use them as a deduction this year, I have to wait until next year. I like my little pnoies, they remind me of the simpler times.

I guess I am mad at myself for not thinking about that but mad at them too for not informing me better!
